Church Life in Service

At Holy Child and St. Martin, we believe that Christian service is an expression of God’s love made visible in the world. Our ministries take many forms, each offering a way to care for one another within the parish and to extend God’s compassion to our neighbors beyond the church doors.

Within our congregation, service is lived out through ministries such as Bread for the World, our Building and Grounds team, and the dedicated members who support our worship life. The Altar Guild—of which I am blessed to serve as Chair—helps prepare the sacred space where we gather each week. With the faithful work of Eda Fernandez, along with the volunteers who assist her with floral arrangements, the members who set the altar for Sundays and special services, and our Acolytes and Lectors who help lead us in worship, these ministries allow us to gather in beauty, prayer, and reverence.

Our calling to serve extends well beyond Sunday mornings. Through our community feeding ministry—made possible by generous partnerships with Peninsula Food Runners, Jagalchi, Trader Joe’s, Verkada Company Kitchen, local seafood providers, and Lucky grocery stores—we help ensure that food reaches families who need it most. This work allows us to be a visible expression of Christ’s care in Daly City and the surrounding neighborhoods.

We also open our doors in other meaningful ways. Children from after-school programs are welcomed into our space, providing them with a safe and supportive place for learning and growth. Our parish hall is regularly used by service-oriented organizations in Daly City whose work strengthens the wider community. In these ways, our church becomes not only a place of worship, but a home of welcome, compassion, and generosity.

Through these diverse ministries—both within our parish family and throughout the city—we seek to embody the love of Christ. Our service is a witness to God’s presence among us and a reminder that the work of the Church is always to nurture, to heal, and to bless all whom we encounter.
